Overview
This course is designed to train individuals to be Safe Work Managers (SWM). A SWM may be identified and appointed in a complex worksite under possession where the complexity of the worksite may require an additional ES to support to maintain effective control of identified risks.
It is recognised that in multi-activity worksites, the workload associated with the Safe Work Pack process (i.e. managing the number of packs), coupled with that of the Rule Book duties of an ES may be excessive leading to an increase in operational and work activity related interface risk.
This also includes in DC line areas the additional responsibilities assigned under NR/WI/ELP/3091.
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake Safe Work Manager in line with the associated competence.
Pre-Requisite Requirements
Be a minimum age of 18.
Hold valid PTS competency (must not be in Learning Support).
Have sufficient command of English language as detailed in Network Rail Company Specification NR/S/CTM/021 (Competence & Training in Track Safety).
Meet the medical requirements of Network Rail Standard NR/L2/OHS/00124 Competence Specific Fitness Medical Requirements to minimum medical level 4 and Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).
Photo ID - For British Nationals - a current and valid recognised, branded form of identity token, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card, full driving licence, passport, biometric ID Card, resident permit as per Home Office guidance or 'ValIDate' card.
For Non-British Nationals - a current and valid passport is required.
Proven experience in managing/supervising a complex worksite in a railway environment subject to GE/RT 8000 Rule Book adherence from planning to delivery.
Experience and/or qualification in site risk management.
An understanding of the principles underpinning CDM (Construction Design Management) either through experience or evidence of training.
Approval for SWM training confirming suitability including review of appropriate non-technical skills and evidence of pre-requisites by a Senior Manager.

A recognised safety qualification (IOSH; Institute of Occupational Safety Health / NEBOSH; National Examination Board in Occupational Safety & Health etc.);
A recognised Project Management qualification (Prince / APM; Association for Project management) and/or Educated to Degree or similar qualification where it can be demonstrated that safety management was a core module of that qualification
