At the end of the training the delegate will be able to:

Understand the process for planning Safe Systems of Work in accordance with NR/L2/OHS/019 Safety of People Working on or Near the Line.


Access and extract information from various sources and use that information in the production of Safe System of Work Plans for use by staff required to work safely on the Network Rail Managed Infrastructure.


Have a basic understanding of key Rail Rule Book modules and Handbooks associated with planning and implementing Safe Systems of Work.

Pre-Requisite Requirements


Due to COVID restrictions, it is recommended that candidates wear face masks in all communal areas.


Please check prior to attending this course that you have successfully completed the necessary Interim Assessment and completed the SSOW Experience Sheet.


This form must detail the following requirements:

  • Evidence of a minimum of 4 SSOW entries recorded on the Work Experience form since the Interim Assessment took place (please DO NOT bring the actual packs);

  • Two work experience entries of track visits recorded on the Work Experience form since the last Interim Assessment;

  • The Line Manager has reviewed the Work Experience form and signed/dated where required.

If the completed SSOW Work Experience form is not handed to the trainer or has not been sufficiently completed, the candidate will not be eligible to attend the training and will be asked to leave the course.


Must be a minimum age of 18.


Meet the Network Rail Standard NR/L1/OHS/051 (Drugs & Alcohol).


 A valid D&A must be on Sentinel.


Must have sufficient command of English language, be literate in IT and mathematics and be conversant with Standard RT/L2/OHS/019 Safety of People Working on or Near the Line.


Photo ID - For British Nationals - a current and valid recognised, branded form of identity token, used for accessing the RMI (Railway Maintained Infrastructure) such as a Sentinel Card, full driving licence, passport, biometric ID Card, resident permit as per Home Office guidance or 'ValIDate' card.


For Non-British Nationals - a current and valid passport is required.

Certification


Upon successful completion of this course, competencies will be uploaded to Sentinel. Sentinel smart cards are ordered directly from Sentinel at www.railsentinel.co.uk.
